Harrah's to become Caesars Entertainment Corp.

Henrik Kjellberg - 11 Apr 2008

Harrah's, owner of the WSOP is changing its name to Caesars Entertainment Corp. In 2005, Harrah's purchased Caesars but retained the Harrah's name.

There is no plan to change the name of properties with the Harrah's name, nor Horseshoe, which is also owned by the newly named Caesars.

Around town, Caesars has always been known as the more prestigious brand of its properties, with more money spent on Caesars Palace renovations than any other (including a $1 billion pricetag to spiff up Caesars Palace in Atlantic City).

Before MGM Mirage acquired Mandalay Resort Group in 2004, they also went by a different name - Circus Circus Enterprises. On the Las Vegas Strip, they operated Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, and Circus Circus, but wanted its parent name to match the prestige of its most-valued property.
